Uniting for Child Safety: Chiang Mai Schools Collaborate on Child Protection Policy Development

The Ambassador Education Group’s Child Protection Policy Development Workshop was held on Friday, August 4, 2023, in two sessions. The morning session took place at the Americana Chinese International School (ACIS), while the afternoon workshop was held at Unity Concord International School.

Over 200 foreign educators and staff from ACIS, UCIS, and the British Concordance International School (BCIS) participated in this annual mandatory training as part of their professional development program before the start of the academic year 2023-2024. All participants have been awarded a Certificate of Attendance.

The event was coordinated by Ajarn Somkit “La” Buarawong, ACIS School Director and Mr. Paul Farran, AEG EHS Director. The workshop featured an esteemed lineup of speakers, including Khun Wirawan “Boom” Mosby, the visionary Founder of The HUG Project Thailand, an organization preventing, protecting, and restoring children from sexual abuse and human trafficking. In addition, two investigators from the Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children (TICAC) unit of the Royal Thai Police represented law enforcement that deals with investigation of child exploitation and child pornography crimes. The workshop featured both a theoretical part and an interactive practical part adapted to the daily activities of teachers and staff.

ACIS is committed to establishing a universal framework for safeguarding our children and is working closely with the Hug Project representatives to develop our own Child Protection Policy (CPP) and appoint in-house Child Protection Officers. Key areas covered in the upcoming CPP will include:

1️⃣ Recruitment: Ensuring the highest standards in selecting individuals who will have a direct impact on children’s lives.

2️⃣ Education and Training: Equipping educators and staff with the tools and knowledge to create a secure and supportive educational environment.

3️⃣ Code of Conduct: Establishing clear guidelines for appropriate behavior and interactions that prioritize the well-being of children.

4️⃣ Referral and Reporting Protocol: Creating a seamless system for reporting concerns and suspected cases of abuse, ensuring swift and appropriate actions.

5️⃣ Access from External Visitors: Implementing measures to control and monitor access to our premises, prioritizing safety at all times.

6️⃣ Disciplining Children: Developing a balanced approach to discipline that respects children’s rights and promotes positive behavior.

7️⃣ Media and Communication Policy: Defining responsible practices for sharing photos of our school premises and students while safeguarding children’s identities and privacy in light of Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Thank you to all the dedicated individuals who participated and contributed to this workshop. Together, we’re building a safer world for our precious children!
